Yet Another Sleeper Article: QB's
I was trolling the net today and decided to read a few fantasy football articles.テつ I like to keep up on opinions around the community.テつ After about 30 minutes of reading I still hadn’t come across anything that could hold my attention.テつ One article in particular kept reoccurring on each site I visited…sleepers or comeback fantasy players.テつ I have no problems with sleeper articles until they contain players like Thomas Jones RB NYJ.テつ Is this really what “experts” spend their day writing about? テつ “Edgerrin James will be a great comeback player this year.”テつ The same Edge that ran for around 1200 yards & 7 td’s last year. (those numbers are just off the top of my head)テつ The amount of effort put into these articles is minimal at best.テつ I decided to go ahead & write my own sleeper articles involving players a bit less known.
The QB edition won’t have as many deep sleepers as other positions.テつ Most teams pretty much have a clear cut favorite at the QB position which doesn’t leave much room for sleepers.
The Obvious
Philip Rivers SD
Rivers is coming of major surgery, but seems to be just about 100% healthy.テつ He has been proven to be a quick healer & a tough kid.テつ He has a bevy of talent surrounding him.テつ Proven stars like Tomlinson, Gates & Chambers mixed with upcoming stars like Jackson and Sproles will make for a dynamic offense.テつ The loss of Michael Turner will be felt by the offense, but it will mean good things for Rivers numbers.テつ Carries given to Turner will now go to the passing game & distributed to Sproles & Hester.
Alex Smith/Shaun Hill SF HD underworld rise of the lycans
I’m predicting Smith to win this job in the next couple of weeks with Hill becoming the primary backup.テつ Regardless of who wins the job, the day one starter is going to have a chance at #1 fantasy QB numbers in a Mike Martz offense.テつ The 49ers have added veteran Isaac Bruce (who is well versed in a Martz offense) & Bryant Johnson.テつ Both will be big upgrades to the WR corp.テつ Youngster Josh Morgan has been impressive throughout camp thus far & could emerge as the #3 WR.テつ Vernon Davis should post career numbers this season as the team looks to exploit match-ups throughout the season.テつ Gore should get back on track after a bit of a disappointment last year.
Jake Delhomme CAR
Delhomme’s value took a bit of a hit this week with the Steve Smith suspension, but other than that, Delhomme looks poised for a good comeback season.テつ The Panthers brought back reliable WR Muhsin Muhammed, which should give Jake a level of comfort that he’s missed for a couple of years.テつ They also brought in D.J. Hackett.テつ Hackett can be a gamebreaker when healthy.テつ He provides Delhomme with another big target near the redzone.テつテつ The team might have finally found their RB of the future with Stewart.テつ He could be in the same mold as Steven Jackson.テつ All these weapons will make everyone forget that Delhomme is coming back from Tommy John surgery.
The Not So Obvious
Kurt Warner ARZ
Leinart is penciled in as the starter for the moment, but Warner (like last year) is still lurking in the background.テつ A poor start by Leinart will push Warner to the forefront.テつ Warner threw 27 TD’s in just 11 starts last season.テつ If Warner can grab the starting job early in the season, he’s capable of 30 TD’s & 3,500 to 4,000 yards.
Chad Pennington NYJ
Pennington seems to be out-performing Clemens thus far in training camp.テつ The Jets organization probably wants to see Clemens take over, but can’t ignore Pennington if he is the best QB on the field. The Jets have talent at the skill positions, so Pennington does have something to work with.テつ The addition of Dustin Keller alone could revive Pennington’s career.テつ Keller has been the standout player throughout camp.テつ Regardless of whether or not Pennington does start, this is probably his last shot at proving he can start.
JaMarcus Russell OAK
While I don’t think that Russell will set the league on fire this year, I think he can be a good #2 fantasy QB.テつ He has the weapons around him to make plays & to nullify mistakes he will make as a young QB.テつ The backfield in Oakland could be one of their strong points if Fargas can stay healthy.テつ That will be a part of the team that Russell can lean on.テつ Russell will need Javon Walker to shake off the mental problems & just play solid football.テつ Ronald Curry could emerge as Russell’s favorite target this year if he can just stay healthy.テつ All in all, if this team can just stay healthy, Russell should put up respectable numbers.
Who?!?!
Tyler Thigpen KC
Brodie Croyle hasn’t impressed to many in Kansas City to this point.テつ This is going to be a pivotal year for the former Bama signal caller.テつ Thigpen, not Huard, will get a chance to run the KC offense if Croyle under-performs. Croyle has also had a history of injuries and I don’t expect him to play a full season.テつ Thigpen could be starting by October or November.テつ Offensive Coordinator, Chan Gailey, seems to like Thigpen.テつ Thigpen’s biggest hurdle will be coming back from a late season knee injury.
Drew Stanton DET
Ok, ok…Stanton isn’t much of a “who?”, but he is a guy that fantasy owners have somewhat forgot about.テつ When Stanton was drafted he was considered the lions QB of the future.テつ Stanton never excelled at any one thing, but he did show that he is a pure football player in college.テつ Kitna has been fairly healthy the last couple years & throughout his career, but now he’s getting up there in age & he can’t keep taking beatings like he has.テつ Stanton should secure the #2 job in Detroit soon & if Kitna suffers any injury or the Lions just can’t get things going, expect Stanton to get a look.
Patrick Ramsey DEN
Ramsey has been off of fantasy radars for a couple of years now.テつ He had a decent amount of upside at one point, but could never capitalize on his chances.テつ He’s now the primary backup QB in Denver.テつ He will not compete for the starting job, but he could get playing time if Cutler has a difficult time managing his diabetes.テつ As of right now, Cutler has looked well in camp, but that could change once Cutler starts competing in regular season games.テつ Cutler owners will want to be sure to have Ramsey as a handcuff.

Do you really have a Detroit Lion on this list? A former Spartan no less. I need to mark this on my calendar.
